Scoring presets

Bracket scoring awards points for each correct pick. Later rounds are worth more, and a correct champion pick earns a bonus on top of that round’s points.

Every bracket runs on the same scoring today: one point times the round number.

Round Points per correct pick
Round 1 1
Round 2 2
Round 3 3
Round 4 4
…and so on for a longer bracket round number × 1

Correctly picking the champion, the winner of the final round, adds a further 10 points on top of that round’s score.

In an eight-team bracket there are three rounds: four quarter-finals, two semi-finals and the final. A participant who picks every match correctly scores:

Round Correct picks Points each Points
Quarter-finals (round 1) 4 1 4
Semi-finals (round 2) 2 2 4
Final (round 3) 1 3 3
Champion bonus 10
Total 21

The champion bonus is worth more than any single round, so a participant whose champion is still alive stays in contention even after a poor first round.

A play-in game (a match played before the first round to decide who takes a round-one slot) is not part of the main draw and does not score.

Scoring type, points per round and the champion bonus can’t be changed from the hub admin panel yet: every bracket runs on the default above. Upset bonuses (extra points for correctly picking a lower-seeded team to win) default to off and aren’t configurable either.

The leaderboard ranks each participant by their best bracket. Where two participants are level on points, these decide the order, in turn:

  1. Total points.
  2. Possible points remaining: the most a bracket could still score if every one of its remaining picks came true. A bracket whose champion is still alive usually has more.
  3. Championship score prediction: how close the participant’s prediction of the final’s total score was to the real total. This applies only once the final has been played, and only to participants who made a prediction.
  4. Correct picks in the latest completed round.
  5. Total correct picks across the bracket.

Participants still level after all five share the same rank.

A bracket in which every pick is correct is marked as a perfect bracket.

Brackets are scored after each result is recorded. Every bracket in the competition is scored again at that point, so the leaderboard and each participant’s possible points remaining stay current as the tournament plays out.
