Inter-group rivalries
Inter-group rankings turn your groups into teams. Alongside the individual leaderboard, a competition can rank its groups against each other on a combined group leaderboard, so Sydney can take on Melbourne, or Marketing can take on Engineering, while every participant still competes for themselves.
Which groups are ranked
Section titled “Which groups are ranked”The groups ranked against each other are your hub groups: the groups you manage under Admin → Settings → Group settings, such as your offices, departments or regions. For each competition, a group’s score comes from those of its members who are taking part in that competition.
By default every hub group appears. To narrow it for one competition, open the competition from Admin → Competitions and use the Enabled groups card: tick the hub groups that should appear on this competition’s inter-group leaderboard, then save. Your hub’s default group is always included and cannot be unticked.
This lets one set of hub groups take part in several competitions, while each competition decides which of them compete.
The Groups section of the create-competition wizard has an Inter-group rankings switch and a Ranking metric choice as well. The groups you add in that section belong to the competition itself; the Group Rankings view ranks hub groups.
How groups are compared
Section titled “How groups are compared”The Group Rankings tab on the competition page ranks the groups, with each group’s member count and score. Anyone viewing it can switch between two measures:
| Measure | How a group scores | Suits |
|---|---|---|
| Average Score | The average points per member | Groups of very different sizes: a team of five competes fairly with a team of fifty |
| Total Score | The combined points of every member | Groups of similar size, or where turnout should count |
The wizard’s Ranking metric also lists Median score and Top performers. The Group Rankings view does not compute those two, so it offers average and total whichever you choose.
The Group Rankings tab shows only when the competition has groups and the viewer can see its leaderboard.
How many groups you can have
Section titled “How many groups you can have”The number of hub groups depends on your plan:
| Plan | Hub groups |
|---|---|
| Free | 1 |
| Starter | 5 |
| Growth | 10 |
| Pro | 25 |
| Scale | 50 |
| Enterprise | Unlimited |
